Yamaha/ITP Quadcross Series Round 8
Competitive Edge MX, Hesperia, CA

Round eight of the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series was held at Competitive Edge MX in Hesperia, CA. Many riders seemed to like the track layout that included some big, high speed jumps but also had some very rough square edged sections. The pro production class has 19 entries so we would be using a two moto format for one of only a few times this year. With a chance of clinching the championship I was very eager to get the day started.

Moto One: My #94 YFZ 450 ripped me a nice holeshot with Jesse Goss in second. There was a small pile up in the second turn that slowed everyone from fourth place on back. With clear sailing out front and feeling very good on this new track, I had a 13 second lead by the end of lap two. As I kept my pace strong out front, Sage Baker and Brandon Smith locked into a battle for second. The two swapped positions at least twice as Josh Frederick and Justin Noss worked up to fourth and fifth. When the checkers flew at the end of our nine lap moto, I took the win by 25 seconds with Baker holding off Smith for second, Frederick and Noss rounded out the top five.

Moto Two: My YFZ pulled me to another great start but I was beat to the first turn by fellow YFZ riders Noss and Reed Petchnick. I was able to get by Petchnick in the first few corners and set out after Noss. The track was tough in the second moto with some huge square edged holes and high winds. After two laps I caught and passed Noss when he came up slightly short and sideways on a jump and the momentum from making it clean carried me past him entering the following left hander. Once into the lead I rode strong and began to inch away from Noss while Baker made his way to third and Smith worked up to fourth. At the finish, I won by 6 seconds ahead of Noss, Baker, Smith and Frederick.

Round eight of the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross couldn’t have gone any better for me. I took both moto wins for the overall and more importantly I clinched the Championship. With all the pressure of the championship off my shoulders, I look forward to debuting the new YFZ 450R at the final race of the season. The 2008 season finale for the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series will be held at Glen Helen Raceway on November 30th.
