Phoenix, AZ
1998 was my first year of racing SX full time. I started the year off by not making the night program in a muddy L.A. Coliseum race. I missed it by one postion and this was after spending at least 30 seconds stuck in a rut at the bottom of the finish line jump while in a transfer position. It was gut wrenching to see the final qualifyer go right by me! Anyways, the next week we were in Houston and I quilified into the night program pretty easy. It was a huge accomplishment for a kid that never even got to practice SX except for at the race itself. The third round was Phoenix and I went into that round high with confidence after making the program the week prior. The whole day just seemed to go great, I actualy won my daytime qualifier, which alone was a huge accomplishment! I was ready to take my Motoworld of El Cajon machine into the nights event! In the heat race I got a decent start but I was just a mid pack rider and did not qualify straight out of the heat race. In the LCQ I got the holeshot and put in 4 solid laps, I knew if I did all the jumps and just stayed steay I would make it. One of my best friends, to this very day was the only person that passed me, Chris Wheeler. He won the LCQ and I finished right behind him and made my first main event with room to spare! I was so excited about making the main, that I really didn't care to race it! I just wanted to celebrate making it. I don't remember that main event that well (selective memory! haha) but I do remember almost holeshoting it from the very far outside, only to have John Dowd come from the inside and nearly clean me out. I think I finished somewhere around 17th. But I made my very first Main Event!
Fast forward to the next year, and the event moved to the new stadium, in downtown. Once again everything seemed to be going my way. I breezed through the daytime qualifier and then when the nights festivities rolled around I just felt the confidence I needed to win. I got a second place start in the heat race and moved into the lead within the first lap. I told myself to just sprint as fast as I could for the remainding laps. The race was a blur as I had total concentration and to tell you the truth I still can't really remember the first 5 laps of that heat race. I can tell you that the wheels came off on the last lap though. Once I got the white flag, it was like reality set in and I understood that I was potentialy going to win my firt SX heat race. It was right then and there that I became my own worst enemy. The last lap seemed like it was taking forever, I was locking up and coming around the second to last corner I thought of something I have never shared with anybody before. The thought that went through my mind was "Oh my god, I am going to get to get interviewed and talk on the loudspeaker". I might as well stopped right there. I COMPLETELY botched the next section and went off the track, I re-entered as quickly as I could, but it was too late and Casey Johnson and Isiah Johnson (no relation) went right by me and I went another 15 yards and crossed the line in third. Although the outcome wasn't that great, it is still one of my fondest memories of racing SX.
I really liked the town, the atmosphere and everything that is associated with Phoenix. It still remains one of my favorite SX destinations and when people ask me where they should travel to see a SX, I highly recommend Phoeinx.

And We're Under Way!
In the Lites, Weimer looked awesome and the Dungey VS. Lawrence rivalry is growing with each passing moment. Lawrence is definetely in Dungey's thoughts and with the media and televison thriving on it, I don't see Dungey being strong enough to put it out of his mind and race the race he is capable of. I guess we will see! I am excited and can't wait to tune into next weeks race in Pheonix.

Best Christmas Ever!
From Nikky Olsen
Well one year all i had asked for was a CRF 250r.So i could get off quads and start racing desert and moto. So on Christmas morning i pre-scanned the whole house to look for the bike i wanted so badly. It was no were to be found. When me and my brother ripped into our presents i opened a shower curtain and a pair of pajamas. My brother on the other hand got a new ipod and a new BMX bike. I sat there trying to be not sad and thankful for what i got. I was pretty bummed. At the end of all this my dad said go look up stairs on the balcony. I ran up stairs and there it was a beautiful brand new CRF 250r.!!!!!!! I was sooooo happy!!! My dad had ridden it up the stairs through my parents room and out onto the balcony!! He is a true moto man. My best Christmas ever!
-Of course everyone knows that Utah gets a lot of snow so that means no riding! One year the snow had started early and the track closed down but i didn't mind because we would be going to Mesquite, Nevada for Christmas! Everyone that has been to the Mesquite track will tell you that it's AMAZING!!! There's nothing for me not to like! Hot guys, nice track, warm weather, shopping, and so much more! My old man decided that on Christmas weekend he would take me to the track and he bet on everything he would take me on! Yeah well of course i thought oh whatever because he's my old man! Well to make things a little bit shorter, when we finally got out to the track it was my whole family, my boy friend, all the guys, and me! I was showing off all over the place and then my dad got on the track! I thought nothing of it but the old fart was catching up and doing all the jumps! I'm not going to lie, I was way NERVOUS!!! Well you probably already know where this is going so I'll just tell you! I wrecked bad! and it was right in front of everyone!!! I looked up and dirt was all over in my teeth and everyone was practically on the ground laughing! Even my family was laughing! So that's the down side to the story but the bright side is i did good the rest of the day and got fudge and a track for Christmas! Hopefully this year i can do it again and maybe i'll win this time!

I have always enjoyed Christmas because on Christmas Eve it is a day of continous driving to and from family members house. I see more family on Christmas than I do all year, but my best Christmas has to be Christmas of 2007. A few months before Christmas I meet the man of my dreams so that Christmas was the first time I ever shared it with any one other than family. It was very exciting for me to go shopping for someone new and of course it was evening more exciting to see what he got me. Thanks to him I ended up buying a dirtbike and started racing with him in the VCHSS. So for Christmas he bought me a helmet and gloves to match. They also matched my dirt bike at the time. The gifts were great, but what made that Christmas the best was because not only was I full of holiday cheer and got to spend time with my family, I also felt like a part of his family. We went to his house for Christmas and had dinner with his parents and they were very welcoming. It is the first time I have ever had feelings like that. It made my holidays even better. And Of course after all the family stuff was done we dressed warm and went riding his 4-wheeler with my cousin and two of his friends. That was different for me usually Christmas I just have my family things and relax around the house, but not that time. Well that's is about all i can say about that Christmas.
Have a Merry Christmas,
Jennifer Howdyshell

In this Blog I want to share with you a very special X mas I had way back in the day, I was only 4 years old and lived with a single mom who did everything she could to give me everything I wanted. Looking back on this particular X-mas as an adult I know that we scraped by for some time coming up to the big day. I know this because my birthday is on December 16th, and I only got half of a transformer, the other half came on X-mas morning. I was only four so I was just as excited on X-mas nevertheless. As we were claning up the wrapping and I was now playing with my complete Transformer toy, my mom said to me "Hey, it looks like santa left you a card on the tree" I looked up not really caring as we all know a "card" can't be good, especialy when you are 4 years old. Anyways, my mom took it down opened it up and read it to me. I can't remember exactly how it went but I know I had to find the red-ribbon the tree and it would lead me to another gift! After rushing around the tree a couple of times I finaly found it. Santa had wrapped this ribbon all throughout the house and eventualy the yard, porch, and into the workshop we had behind the house. After about 20 minutes of following this ribbon I opened the workshop doors to my beat up, brand used YZ50. It may have been battered and beat, but it was pure heaven to my eyes. My mom had scraped and saved and was able to get me my very first motorcyle. I loved that back and to this day think of it as one of my all time favorites. To make matters even better, it didn;t even run. We spent the whole day pushin it up the driveway and letting me coast is down and then I would fall over, just like the stuntmen I would watch on TV! We got that thing running just a few days after X mas and if I remember correctly it was just a clogged fuel filter. That bike started it all for me and that X-mas is a memory that I will forever have.
This story has just inspired me, send me your BEST X-mas memory and I will pick the best one I recieve and give you a gift package. Send it to Regis188@motoworldracing.com I will even post it on the web for everyone to see!
